DFID: Layered At Home

DEAN FARRIS INTERIOR DESIGN

Loving the idea of bringing a small rug back in to the mix- since I already owned this one it was easy and affordable to execute- of course, I do have my eye on several better quality rugs at
Miromar Design Center , and through my friend Ali Khorasantchi - here in Naples.

VIEW: Reflection

DFID (c) 2020
I took this shot the other day and thought nothing of it but later when I looked at it I felt like it was a very evocative image of what's happening right now and it's good to look at the past in order to understand the present.

For example, Blenheim Palace was built in the early 18th century and still stands although it is now a world heritage site house museum but it brings inspiration to people today just like Downton Abbey has done and this home is considered the real Downton Abbey.

Perhaps this explains somewhat the current trend of the grand millennial's and their love of tradition and traditional decor at home.  An Overwhelming tidal wave of technology is driving us further into our homes seeking comforts on a human level.  While we seemingly have everything at our disposal via the push of a button some things cannot be purchased online such as human contact, human love the spirit and the soul.  DF

DINING: At Home

CASA GUSTO

This wonderful shop, Casa Gusto, on Georgia Avenue in West Palm Beach has a fine selection of antiques imported from Europe and also offers interior design services.  They also I hear from local sources throw great parties!
I discovered this firm from looking at the new issue of MILIEU  which covered Ms Brigers beautiful home in Mexico- (Cris Briger is the owner of Casa Gusto).
Obviously this global crisis is forcing us to have meals at home, and so the dining room may get daily use now...  Sadly, I've two friends affected- one is self isolating for two weeks and the other is a virtual prisoner in an assisted living facility.
Hoping these images from MILIEU and CASA GUSTO will cheer us up - BE SAFE, DF

DFID: Wilton Carpet

Dean Farris Interior Design, Naples, Florida (c) 2020

I was browsing some picture files and came across this image of my Naples living room from about a year ago- for an i-phone shot it's not bad- the held back curtains were inspired by our last trip to Paris, and there are so many things I like about this besides the curtains- the warmth from the large Wilton style rug by Stanton for example- there's a thin stripe of that spa blue from the carpet also in the curtain fabric- while this rug is now in my bedroom I've  thought of putting it back in the living room- so stay tuned for more upcoming posts* !  DF

EDIT: Continued

DFID (c) 2020

Here, you can see the repetition of the two covered jars sitting on the two empire style seats used as tables.  Just like the late Billy Baldwin and many others I use my living room as a sort of laboratory for experimentation with arrangements for furnishings.  You can try this at home by simply removing all of your decorative accessories, look at the room without them, edit them, and then bring back in only what you want to see.  Enjoy!  DF

EDIT: Just One (or two)

DFID (c) 2020

Loving the idea of just the one thing on my table right now it's a big bold concept something Tom Britt used quite a bit in his work- much of the brilliance of his work, as well as that of Frances Elkins and Michael Taylor relied on this talent for editing and distilling down to the essence of chic!  DF
