The Beige of the Nineties

Our dear Albert Hadley was quoted as saying that "lavender was the beige of the 90's" ~ and I saw this Brian McCarthy room today and thought of that...an often misunderstood colour, it denotes the ethereal, romantic, and mysterious.  Fritz von der Schulenberg photography for F. Schumacher.  DF *****

Book: Parish-Hadley, Tree of Life

Great new book

How wonderful this new book is, and for those who may not know, the cover room belongs to New Jersey socialite Mrs. Nancy "Princess" Pyne...Albert was so proud of having retained the original paint in this room.  Click here to read an interesting (and funny) article by William Norwich...the new book, by Parish-Hadley veterans Bunny Williams and Brian McCarthy, is an excellent insiders look at the world of truly "high-end" decorating ( a term neither Albert nor Mrs. Parish would have ever used) and gives valuable insight for those in the trade who have an interest in this sort of thing.  Please pass the canapés ! Enjoy!  DF *****

Dean Farris Interior Design (c) 2015
I know, you're probably thinking, oh boy, here he goes again, showing his living room ~ in Naples ~ but it's home sweet home baby, love it or leave it!
Looking forward to the weather change, and some cooler, less humid days...I chose to re-post this image today, since I just finished being awesomely and blown away- inspired by the new Schumacher News story on Miles Redd, where Dara Caponigro gave him twelve editorial pages to show whatever inspired him and his new fabric and wallpaper collection.  (see my earlier post on Miles Redd for F Schumacher) Enjoy! Alessandra Branca for Schumacher

Alessandra Branca for F. Schumacher

Having always admired the work of the Rome born designer Alessandra Branca, who works out of Chicago and NYC, I was struck by the classic beauty of her new chintz for Schumacher, which Alessandra has brilliantly used in her room design shown above~Joni from Cote de Texas is featuring this designer's work today, and ELLE DECOR showed a stunning bedroom by Branca, with a lime green damask fabric, also by Schumacher... DF

What's Hot Now: Schumacher Chiang Mai Dragon

Chiang Mai Dragon, Aquamarine, F Schumacher
This charming and highly decorative design, by F. Schumacher, reminds me of when, years ago, I worked as an assistant to the Washington DC decorator, Bob Waldron~ Mr. Waldron sent me on an errand to the Japanese Embassy (It may have been the ambassador's residence) and I saw the most amazing gardens there.

Beautiful Marine Linard, MP Interiors

Above, my wonderful and talented friend and co-worker, Marine Linard, and her new wing chairs in the Chiang Mai Dragon...she paired these chairs with a lemon yellow settee, and I can't wait to see them in situ .  If you haven't done so recently, please visit the newly updated Schumacher site here and enjoy!  DF *****

Using a Bold Print in a Bedroom- Aerin

Aerin Lauder, Vogue
One of our favorite newer vendors, here at MP Interiors, is AERIN ~ including beautiful furniture made for her by the E.J. Victor company.  Presently, I am re-designing a master suite for my client Mary Edelman Wilson, here in Naples, and am also proposing a large scale printed material, from Schumacher (Zanzibar Trellis Matte) and a pair of "Culloden" lamps from the AERIN collection through Visual Comfort.  The room shown above, I believe was influenced by Mark Hampton's work for Estee Lauder, Aerin's famous grandmother. Inspiring! Enjoy! DF *****

Modern/Classic, That Trellis Thing

Chloe Sevigny's former NYC apartment
Have you noticed that something once considered very classic, has become terribly trendy?  I got a kick out of this since Ms. Sevigny is from Darien~
This flat was in the trendy east village, and it was fun to see the contrast between a gritty neighborhood and a fresh look inside this 1.7 million dollar one bedroom...

Imperial Trellis, F. Schumacher
We represent F. Schumacher to-the-trade at Miromar Design Center, just north of Naples on I-75. Our firm, which is now called MP Interiors~ was formerly known in Florida as Webster and Company.  We also represent Stark, Old World Weavers, DeGournay, LEE, Aerin, and Ralph Lauren Home...Stroheim and Romann, Duralee, Peter Fasano, and Groves Brothers...plus a beautiful collection of vintage and antique pieces~as well as~Madcap Cottage !  Come in and visit one of our six showrooms today!  Enjoy!  DF *****

Fantasy in Decoration VI

Palacio Queluz, Portugal

A PAIR OF MEISSEN PORCELAIN FRUIT AND FLOWER ENCRUSTED RETICULATED VASES AND COVERS
LATE 19TH/20TH CENTURY, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARKS
Each of inverted pear shape, the lobed body pierced with trellis and applied allover with flowering and fruiting vines
20½ in. (52 cm.) high (4)

This stunning, tall, pair of decorated vases sold four years ago at Christie's for + $21,250.00 ~U.S. I still recall seeing a similar (smaller) pair on the mantel at Bella Vista, in Southport, CT~ when I worked as an assistant to the decorator George Clarkson back in the fabulous 1980's...

Many of these images have very personal and wonderful associations for me- the frog is something that just delights with its many fun colours and the way it's hiding in the garden~
Some of the things we like are often the most simplistic and easy to understand!

Celerie Kemble

Who wouldn't adore this gorgeous, up to date room by Kemble Interiors, New York, Palm Beach and London?  We represent her fabrics and wallpapers for Schumacher as well as
representing Iris Barrels Old World Weavers fabrics (sold to Stark) in our showrooms at the Miromar Design Center- Suite 348, MP Interiors (formerly Webster and Company Florida) ~ and now, dear readers, here is our selected "quote de post" Enjoy!  DF *****

“Those who find ugly meanings in beautiful things are corrupt without being charming. This is a fault. Those who find beautiful meanings in beautiful things are the cultivated. For these there is hope. They are the elect to whom beautiful things mean only Beauty. There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well written, or badly written. That is all.”

― Oscar WildeThe Picture of Dorian Gray
