GIFT : Pearls of Palm Beach, by Holly Holden

A book is always a nice gift, and so I thought how timely to post about this one, which I don't own yet... Enjoy! Happy Holidays ! Kudos to dear Holly Holden, a truly lovely lady! DF

SCALE: Proportion is Everything!

Often, in designing for myself, I tend to go with a strong preconceived notion, perhaps trying to adhere to a furniture plan I'd drawn...so recently, you can see here where I switched out the small American Empire console for this mirrored bachelor's chest... a vast improvement- and wanted to share it with you! Small collage by David Ferlito...lamp, RLH...mirror, vintage. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday ! DF

SUMMER: Respite!

Once again, taking the Summer "off" to rest and relax, not to mention stay cool and dry...should be better than last, since we seem to be winding down from the dread COVID business.. at least in the States, that is... here's to Summer, may yours be relaxing, restful, stress free and FUN !!!

INSPIRED: Penny Bianchi in Montecito

They say one picture is worth a thousand words...interior design by Penelope Bianchi, Montecito, Ca. DF

DFID: Maximal Bed Chamber !

This small room was decorated to resemble perhaps a New York apartment from the 1980's or even a tiny pied a terre in Paris or London...so many elements included here I've been fond of for many years, it's a sort of scrapbook of my life...funny enough, this i-phone shot was taken through the window from the exterior..! This gave the image a dream-like and somewhat "fantasy" look, something dear Albert Hadley was always talking about.DF

FUN : KBPalmBeach

Always fun to visit, the 4th annual Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club charity decorator showhouse was a beautiful symphony of many gorgeous colors...I was especially taken with this small "antechamber" by Boston designer, Mally Skok...we followed the visit with a delightful lunch at the old school "Ta-boo" (Two flutes of prosecco, a bowl of penne with shrimp, and the famous Ta-boo dessert..) then a fun stroll up and down famous old Worth Avenue, now a repository for many art galleries. Peter Millar's shop was open and chock full of shoppers..! DF

Garden: Palm Beach

Who wouldn't LOVE this gorgeous ocean front garden in sunny old Palm Beach, Florida? As I've recently gotten into gardening- and actually getting my manicured hands DIRTY...and am having the time of my life procuring and placing Saint Augustine grass, Alocascia, Gardenia, Clusia, Lantana, and Sweet Williams, Liriope, and boxwood topiary...plus a host of other natural delights...DF

MARIO B: Fond Memories

You know, way back in the early 1980's, I had the most fun getting to work with Mario Buatta and Michael Zabriskie - on a model room setting at the Bloomingdale's Manhattan flagship...and was delighted that dear Emily Eerdmans featured this image of it in her fabulous book called Mario Buatta... he actually used a basic Bloomie's model for the sofa, and created a charming "petit bourgeoise" room setting so that the average person shopping in the store could visualize having a luxurious English inspired sitting room of their very own... brilliant ! GARDEN: Lantanas My Love....

Yes, I've always loved these flowers (a member of the Verbena family) ...Nothing beats lantana for nonstop color throughout the growing season. The cheerful flower clusters—in a rainbow of single and multi-hues—bloom nonstop from late spring through frost, and nearly year-round in warmer climates. Known for its carefree nature, lantana is grown as an annual in northern regions, and a broadleaf evergreen shrub or ground cover in frost-free climates. The flowers attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and insect pollinators. A member of the verbena family, it is native to tropical regions of the Americas and South Africa. Though there are 150 different species, those most widely available to home gardeners are Lantana camara and modern hybrids. Also known as Spanish flag, lantana thrives in hot, dry weather and is tolerant of salt and sandy soil, making it a popular choice for seaside landscapes. These same attributes are what allow it to become invasive in some areas
