My wonderful friend Alana Newman, who is also a travel agent, booked me into the famous Hotel Danieli in Venice a few years ago. I had flown to Nice to visit friends, and then took a night train from France to Italy. Taking the private water taxi directly to the hotel was a totally glam experience, and I remember going up the grand canal and my first sighting of the Peggy Guggenheim Museum. The Danieli is in an old 14th century pallazzo, and is spectacular. It's part of the Starwood group of luxury hotels, similar to Relais & Chateaux. http://www.danieli.hotelinvenice.com/ I love Venice, and look forward to returning. It's about time they had something to celebrate, as the Saints did win the Super Bowl. The first mardi gras in this country was in Mobile, Alabama and was a way for young ladies to be introduced to society through a series of festive parties. Here are some gorgeous images of the victory jubilee... Enjoy ! DF *****
