PROGRESS: DFID at home

DFID 2017
Here's where I turned the new smaller ikat rug, and I like the "chock a block" look- notice I changed the table skirt to a gauffraged brown velvet- ( a Williams-Sonoma online find).  I like the way the strong ikat breaks the boring banality of this shoebox of a room- with its low ceiling, and lack of millwork.  I was also excited to see my rug choice (Feizy.com) on page 45 of the September issue of House Beautiful!

Looking back towards the small dining area- living with the existing beige carpet for now...that Trowbridge sailboat is covering the little "pass-through" -

DFID 2017
Some day when I have a nice LARGE bedroom, I'll put this small settee at the foot of the bed- until then it's creating a second seating group in the living room!  The porcelain bust creates another focal point, and is by Theodore and Alexander. DF *****

ARTFUL: Artie Vanderpool

Artie Vanderpool, sofa, Kravet
One of my favorite blogs, and favorite people, is the very creative decorator, Artie Vanderpool.  Shown (above) his own chic new living room, recently featured on Cote de Texas.

Artie Vanderpool

Like a New York version of the California based Mark Sikes,  Artie shares with his vast readership and Instagram following- his tips for creating a successful décor.  His wedding chest above, is so similar to one that Mark Sikes used for his line of reproductions recently introduced at High Point.  Artie used a Stickley table for his dining area, and so, I suggested to him that he create a collection for Stickley.

No designer's home is complete without dogs, and Artie has two- Frenchies Arlo and Louna!
Perhaps this fact could lead to a partnership with Martha Stewart also?

Last, but not least, Artie has this incredible collection he created, called Cross Bottle Guy- check out all of his creations and his site Color Outside The Lines here  DF *****

POST HOLIDAY Cleaning

DFID 2017
I always enjoy the holidays- but I like even more the chance to clean up house after all the spruce needles have dropped, all the gifts lavishly unwrapped., and all the dishes and serving pieces used and now needing to be put away again.

The charming painting (above) was given to me by William (Billy), after we cleaned out his storage unit- and I really do love it and enjoy living with it.  His mother, Ann, did it in 1965 !

DFID 2017

I decided to order another ikat rug- to replace the old damask pattern one that was previously in the "dining area" - (shown above) - and after all this cleaning and dusting, I made a nice dinner for the two of us, from a recipe I found on the Domestic Daddy blog- a pot roast recipe.  Dessert was vanilla ice cream with pineapple, fresh mint, and a Pepperidge Farm cookie.  It was great to have a whole weekend to relax, and work on my apartment.  Stay tuned for more!  DF *****

JACKIE, a film to see

Recently, during the holidays, I caught the new film with Natalie Portman portraying Jacqueline Kennedy.  It was fantastic!  Director Pablo Larrain caught the mood of the 1960's~ and Natalie Portman became Jackie.  While the subject may seem a bit sad, it is really an insight into Lincoln, Garfield and McKinley too- as they were also assassinated.  See the film and judge for yourself.  Brava to Miss Portman!

Read my previous post here about Jackie and her use of Rigaud candles in the White House.  DF
